An academic event titled “March 1st – World Accountants’ Day”, jointly organized by Cizre Vocational School and Şırnak Vocational School, was held with broad participation. The event featured scientific and professional evaluations on the critical role of the accounting profession within the economic system, current developments, and sectoral practices.
The conference took place at Şırnak University’s July 15 Congress and Culture Center and was attended by Şırnak Provincial Treasurer Mr. Hasan Öztaş, Director of Cizre Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Vedat Sönmez, Faculty Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Şirin Sökmen from the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Mr. Mesut Balta, staff from the Şırnak Tax Office, accounting professionals from Şırnak province and districts, expert academics, stakeholders from public institutions and organizations, and students from Cizre and Şırnak Vocational Schools as well as the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences.
In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Vedat Sönmez stated that the purpose of organizing the conference on the occasion of World Accountants’ Day was to provide students with the opportunity to benefit from the experiences of professionals working in the field. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Şirin Sökmen, who moderated the sessions, shared important data regarding the employment of Şırnak University graduates in public institutions. He emphasized that success is achieved through determination and disciplined work. He also highlighted that the accounting profession is dynamic due to constantly changing regulations, technological innovations, and global economic fluctuations, and that individuals who can adapt to these changes, continuously improve themselves, and are passionate about their profession can advance in their careers.
Şırnak Provincial Treasurer Mr. Hasan Öztaş presented significant statistical data on fiscal policies, tax evasion, and the informal economy, offering insights into the relevant regulatory framework. Revenue Specialist Mr. Münir Zeyrek explained the process of becoming an assistant revenue specialist and provided detailed information on key points to consider during public sector recruitment interviews. CPA Mr. Mesut Balta delivered a comprehensive presentation on the future of accounting practices and the current tax systems in Turkey, sharing his professional experiences with students.
At the end of the event, plaques were presented to the speakers in appreciation of their valuable contributions. Director of Cizre Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ramazan Vedat Sönmez presented a plaque to Mr. Hasan Öztaş, while Head of the Accounting and Tax Department at Cizre Vocational School Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar Yaman presented a plaque to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ferhat Şirin Sökmen. Head of the Accounting and Tax Department at Şırnak Vocational School Dr. Mert Baran Tunçel presented a plaque to CPA Mr. Mesut Balta.
Following the plaque ceremony, a cake-cutting and group photo session was held with all participants to commemorate the event.
