The meeting chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Serdar YAMAN was attended by faculty members of the Department of Accounting and Tax, PhD Fatih EKİNLER and PhD. Esra YAVUZ; Revenue Specialist Dilber EKİNLER representing the Cizre District Tax Office; Certified Public Accountant Serhat ÖZALP representing independent accountants and financial advisors; Tarık TOK from Ziraat Bank Cizre Branch Portfolio Management representing the banking sector; and Mehmet Casım BOYACI representing the Cizre Chamber of Commerce and Industry (TSO). Additionally, student representative Nurullah ÇAZIM attended to express current students’ views, and alumna Sibel ZEREN participated to represent graduates.

During the productive meeting, the curriculum of the Department of Accounting and Tax was evaluated. Discussions focused on the challenges faced by graduates in the early stages of their careers, internship and employment opportunities, protocol preparations with external stakeholders, and collaborative extracurricular activities.

External stakeholders emphasized the importance of newly added courses such as Financial Literacy and E-Commerce, and overall found the curriculum to be sufficient. In particular, the inclusion of the LUCA accounting software in the Accounting Software Packages course was appreciated by CPA Serhat ÖZALP.

Stakeholders expressed concerns regarding students’ lack of familiarity with professional terminology, underdeveloped analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, insufficient knowledge of legislation, limited numerical aptitude, and low foreign language proficiency. Accordingly, it was decided to make necessary adjustments in the 2025–2026 academic year planning to help meet the sector’s demand for qualified intermediate staff.

The advisory board meeting also paved the way for future collaborations between the Cizre Chamber of Commerce and Industry and our department. It was agreed that during the 2025–2026 academic year, joint activities such as technical visits, professional seminars for students, and business-oriented seminars will be organized.
